Asus New Zenfone 3s Max

Another day, another ZenFone 3 variant from ASUS. This time, it’s the ZenFone 3s Max (notice the little “s” there), and it’s officially available beginning next week. [Updated with official price]

If it seems like an incremental upgrade over the original 5.2-inch ZenFone 3 Max (ZC520TL) based on the model name, well, it depends. The ZenFone 3s Max (also called the ZC521TL) owns an almost entirely different physical design, with the fingerprint scanner moved to the home button below the display and the rear camera relocated to the corner.

Based on the pictures, you can barely tell if it branches off from the ZenFone 3 family, but it’s certainly part of the Max series. Thanks to the boosted 5000mAh battery, it’ll last even longer than the already beefed-up 4100mAh capacity of its predecessor.

The other significant change is the slightly faster MediaTek MT6750 chipset. Coupled with 3GB of memory and updated Android 7.0 Nougat (finally!) interface, the ZenFone 3s Max is impressive for an entry-level handset.

There’s also a marginally better 8-megapixel selfie camera on board (compared to the original’s 5-megapixel shooter), plus a dual-LED flash now installed at the back. The newer model is a bit thicker and heavier, but only by 0.3mm and 27g, respectively. Every other specification matches that of the original ZenFone 3 Max.

India will see its launch happening on February 7. It’s only then when we’ll find out the official price.

Update: The ASUS ZenFone 3s Max is now available for INR 14,999 or roughly $222. Availability outside of India hasn’t been made official yet.
